He couldn’t take his eyes off the clock, counting the ticking hours until exhaustion momentarily won. Re-opening his swollen eyes, 48 he totaled up. Never did two days pass by so slowly yet so quickly.

The day before yesterday, he awoke to his nightmare. The note left behind in absence was quickly incinerated.

Woeful apologizes could only increase to his anger.

‘Leave, leave.’ Your kind approach was met with hostility as he protested. Refusing to talk it through, he wished for all voices to cease.

Although he stuck his head arrogantly in the air, he refused to leave his room. Tousled bed, he barely moved an inch.

Yes, the day before yesterday his life changed.

Not disrupting what was once your spot, he could only skim. Fingertips flowing over the creases in the cream-colored sheets, no warmth was detected. Deathly cold satin, he cursed himself for causing this.

“Hey, Bakugo.”

His hand slipped to the sudden voice breaking his concentration. Crumbling up the once delicately cared for fabric, it now smoked beneath his hand.

“I swear I’m going to kill you,” he grunted beneath his breath. He needed not to see the intruder attempting to reach him as his voice was distinguishable.

Yet it wasn’t the right time as anger visibly shook throughout his body.

“Ha good one,” Kirishima nervously chuckled once to his friend’s harsh words.

“What are you doing here?” Keeping his head down, Bakugo pushed his way through the hardened man. Exiting for the first time in days, he left the depressive chains of his room.

“Well…” he rubbed the back of his head, ruffling his crimson hair as he dotted around the question. Having all calls and messages unanswered for days, he was sent to check upon the ash blond man.

Unsure on how he’d react to knowing all were concerned about him, he only spoke of himself. “I just came to see how you ar—”

“I’m fine.” Cutting him off, Bakugo carelessly dropped himself on the couch; darkened leather creaking to his sudden weight drop.

Keeping his eyes away, he stared out of the window. Squinting to the cityscape bouncing blinding light back at him. Running off into cursing murmurs, he continued to abrasively rub off on those who cared about him.

Gulping, Kirishima was unsure on how to help. The day before yesterday he received a cryptic message sent suddenly in the early morning. No response was given to explain Bakugo’s sent ‘She left.’

As all attempts were exhausted, he decided to let himself in with his given spare key.

“If that’s all that you wanted to say then you can leave.” Harshly lashing out once more, he held his breath for a moment. The word simply falling from his lips in a painful sting.

“Bakugo,” Kirishima didn’t break. Resisting his words, he was going to see it through.

He gave a heavy sigh as his friend didn’t cave. Relief expelling as he turned his head coming face to face for the first time.

Visibly showing the stress caused by the strenuous hours, he was sure that Kirishima would run now. Dull eyes hanging darkened circles sunk his once bright skin. Chapped lips painfully parted with smidges of dried blood staining his otherwise pale lips.

Kirishima internally took a step back from the sudden frightening sight. Although drained, he’d never think that he’d lose the ability to take care of himself. Simply disheveled hair turned into a complete mistreatment.

He shook his head, shaking the visible discomfort. “I’m not going.”

Bakugo clenched his teeth, snapping back a ‘tsk.’ “Have it your way.”

First things first, his health was most important. Breaking the seal, he uncapped the water bottle before handing it off to him, “here.”

Bakugo snorted louder to the kind action. “What am I? A kid?” Despite his argumentative words, he accepted. With a shaky hand, he took his first sip in days.

Continuingly parched throat, his body begged for more.

Peering over as he quickly took down the water, he caught Kirishima’s grin. Brushing it off with a harsh snarl, he wouldn’t let him know that he wished for more.

“If you want, you can tell me about it. It’s okay if you don’t want to yet.” Pulling up a chair, he knew that it wasn’t going to be short talk. As he braced himself, his figure slumped sympathizing with his down and out friend.

Bakugo’s breathing hitched, inhaling sharply to the tender subject behind touched. The words stuck in his throat unable to come out even if he wished. Taking the brunt was the water bottle crushed in his hand.

Regret sending that panicked message spurred before a tinge of gratefulness set in.

Releasing the crumpled plastic, he gave a deep sigh.

-

“I’ll be back tomorrow!” After a few hours, Kirishima departed with a grin and a promise to return.

“Don’t,” Bakugo sternly replied as he watched the door shut behind him.

After continuous blank stares, he painfully blinked, rubbing his dry eyes. “Shit…”

Despite the past hours spent in silence, his stress was momentarily lifted. To have another soul close was strangely comforting though he’d never say so.

Now left alone, the large apartment echoed in eerie silence. Returning his groaning in a low hum, the silence persisted after his voice faded.

Although it was his idea to move in together, it was yours for a larger space. He wished for only one room but you won with your desired three. Carefully working him, you had your way.

He knew that you deserved the world. One to fully dote and verbally gush to all. Yet although he couldn’t, he was glad that you chose him.

From the early morning scowl that you awoke with to sneaking desert before dinner and everything in between. He was unsure that he deserved such perfection. Yet the soft glances and light touches, he was reassured with warmth.

Yes, months before, he walked through that door to happiness. Welcoming him with a bright smile, it was enough to raise his own.

Yet, antier, minor snags shot it down.

Strenuous work began to take its toll on both parties. Pilling up lonely nights couldn’t be ignored any longer.

Already damped attitude slipped further refusing to hear your concerns. Lashing out until breaking point refused more.

“Shit,” he clenched his teeth from the stupidity that escalated this far.

It couldn’t possibly end like this. Although he wouldn’t for others, he’d suck up his pride anytime for you.

Scavenging for his phone, he tossed the mess upon the coffee table for any sign. Alerting to a nearly dead battery, it hid beneath piles of paperwork.

Scrolling past missed calls and up opened text messages, he found the thread connecting to you. Typing in a few characters, they were deleted quickly as the first words needed to count.

Sighing to not knowing what to say to remedy, he lit up to the promising act. Three gray dots shot up to a message being typed from your end.

Holding for a moment for a reply, he didn’t blink. Yet fate was cruel as none came sinking back the dots.

Taking in a deep breath, he tried once more.

A sickening joke was surly being played on him as the dots re-appeared for a message. Drawing him in with hope, it was quickly pulled.

A pulsating nerve beat in his forehead to the back and forth game. Typing in, his message was solely one word.

‘[NAME.]’

‘Katsuki.’

Both appeared at seemingly the same time catching his attention. He blinked for a second time just to make sure before the similar interaction raised a slight grin.

‘Where are you? We need to talk.’

‘Downstairs in the lobby.’

His heart raced, jumping up to his throat before he could reply.

‘Don’t move, I’m coming.’
